Until the final drop

Published in Der Spiegel, 8.8.2015

Water is becoming an increasingly scarce resource worldwide and there are speficic regions becoming all too familiar with the battle. Fellow journalists, Michele Bertelli, Javier Sauras, and I investigated Bolivia’s aftermath of the “water war” in 2000 to learn what the outcome of the bloodshed was, and to get an idea of what is to come for other countries. The investigation was funded by the “Innovation in Development Reporting” (IDR) Grant of the European Journalism Centre. Our results were part of this front page story in Der Spiegel, but were also featured in over ten other periodicals in German, English, Italian and Spanish.
