More than 800 women die every day while trying to give birth. Bolivia, historically one of Latin America’s most deadly countries, is leading the way towards eliminating maternal mortality. The solution is emerging from the country’s indigenous traditions coupled with modern Bolivia’s recent support, creating a potential pathway for international replication. This long-term investigation, led by colleagues Michele Bertelli, Javier Sauras and myself, was funded by the “Innovation in Development Reporting” (IDR) Grant of the European Journalism Centre. In the form of interactive multimedia stories and classical print features, the results were published in more than ten outlets in German, English, Italian and Spanish.
